Health Screening
Are you a caring employer?
Do you want to improve productivity?
Do you spend large amounts of time and energy dealing with sickness and absence?
Do you want to reduce your sickness and absence rate?
If you have answered "YES" to any of the above questions then Unity
Healthcare Solutions Ltd may be able to help.
Unity Healthcare Solutions Limited provide comprehensive, but tailored, health checks for employees from a variety of industries, either on site or at their regional offices. The Company has a strict confidentiality policy which reassures employees, but also refers problems onto the relevant health care professional should they arise, which takes the onus of follow up away from the employer.
Figures released by the CBI put the number of workers in the UK who suffered from work related illness at 2.2 million, which equated to £11.6 billion in lost revenue through time off work, 30% of employees said to be in poor health. A healthy worker is 20% more productive than a poorly worker and takes far less time and effort to manage.
As a caring employer, providing health screening to your employees not only safeguards them against disease in later life and provides early diagnosis of health problems thus increasing the chance of a good prognosis, it saves the time and money which litigation entails. Health and Safety Law was introduced to protect employees and the public and should therefore be taken extremely seriously.
Modern European health and safety law is based on the principle of risk assessment, and aims to protect the health, safety and welfare of employees and the public from risks from work activities.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires that managers, under the veil of good management and common sense, carry out risk assessments on every work activity and take sensible measures "so far as is reasonably practical" to implement the health and safety measures identified as necessary by the risk assessment. An example of this legislation is The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 came into force for all industry sectors in April 2006, in a bid to protect the hearing of workers from excessive noise. The level at which employers must provide ear protection is now 85 decibels. A risk assessment must be carried out at 80 decibels and action taken to reduce noise exposure by either elimination of the noise or elimination of contact with the source. Workers must also be provided with information and training on how to reduce the risks to their health (HSE 2007). It is also recommended that hearing surveillance be carried out where there is a risk to health.
